About

I was born and raised in Toronto, coming from a loving family with wonderful parents, a terrific sister, and a brother. Throughout my education, I attended several schools including Blade and Avenue Public School, Beverly Heights Middle School, Junior High, and Downsview Secondary High School. Afterward, I pursued my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from York University.

Early in my career, I worked at UJA Federation, where I served as the Director of the Holocaust Remembrance Committee. I was involved in planning community events and overseeing the operations of the Holocaust Education Memorial Center. I also facilitated survivor testimonies in high schools, providing students with firsthand accounts of the Holocaust.

Seeking further education, I pursued a Master’s degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work. While studying, I continued my involvement with the UJA Campaign, working closely with volunteers to raise funds for Jewish charities and resources in Canada and Israel.

After my time at the Federation, I transitioned into clinical social work. I worked part-time at Jewish Family and Child Services, where I ran psychoeducational programs for fathers going through divorce and their children. I also gained experience in addiction counseling and family therapy at a community addiction service agency.

Later, I joined Homewood Health as a full-time clinical social worker, where I focused on employee assistance programs. I provided counseling services to individuals, couples, and families, specializing in addiction, depression, trauma, workplace stress, and various mental health issues.

In 1989, I graduated from Ishiba University and have been practicing social work ever since. What motivated me to pursue this field was reflecting on my positive experiences during summer camp, which fostered a sense of community, well-being, and connection.

Apart from my professional life, I have a passion for music. I played the drums and later learned to play the guitar, even fronting a band called the Fridge Magnets. I had the privilege of collaborating with talented musicians, including Richard Bell, known for his work with Janis Joplin.

Cycling is another hobby I enjoy. I obtained a motorcycle license and embarked on exhilarating trips, such as exploring Nova Scotia’s scenic landscapes on a motorcycle. However, due to safety concerns, I eventually decided to give up motorcycling.

Gardening is a therapeutic hobby for me. I take pleasure in planting flowers, both annuals and perennials, finding it relaxing and mindful.

Recently, my life has been navigating the challenges of my partner’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. My partner, Blanche, is a brilliant psychotherapist who specialized in addressing violence against women. While it has been difficult, my work as a mental health professional has provided me with comfort and fulfillment.

Lastly, fishing holds a special place in my heart. I grew up going on fishing trips with my family, and now I continue the tradition with my son. Every summer since he turned 13, we embark on fishing adventures together, creating cherished memories and strengthening our bond.

These experiences and interests shape who I am as a social worker and contribute to my commitment to providing support and care to others.

"Your mental health is a priority. Your happiness is an essential. Your self-care is a necessity. Remember to take care of yourself inside out."
